He was born in Pórszombat, in Zala county. He was studying in a teachers’ training college when his talent was detected. He won golden medal in the international drawing exhibition in Paris, in 1910. He turned to painting definitively by that time, he jointed to the modern, postimpressionist and cubist trends. Between 1925 and 1928 he spent a longer time in Paris, he found his own style and terms. The first three paintings show this period (1928-1934).

He spent summers in Balatonfüred beginning from the 1930’s, Lake Balaton and still-life became his major topics. The Mediterranean surroundings of the lake, the water and the air occur in diverse lights and colours. The painting build up from monochrome, juxtaposed scores and patches by his technique. He painted a rich set of flower-pieces and portraits with different variation of colours and tones. He got the attribute ”the painter of the thousand-faced Lake Balaton”.

The exhibition was opened in 1989, from the donation of the actor’s widow, Lili Halápy.
